Are laminate floors really a good choice?

I want to lay a laminate floor in two ajoining rooms seperated with an arch way. W?here is the best place to start

1 side of one piece of my laminate flooring is up higher than the rest about 1/8in. it is in the center of a room does all the flooring before I get to that piece need to come up or can I remove the single piece?

We have laminate flooring in our kitchen.Some water got in one of the joints and has slightly puckered up at the joint. Is there a way to make this go back down?

Has to stay wet a very long time. We've had a piece out on the deck for a year and it has gotten thicker, that is all.
