  • I like answering it makes me feel like I help people. I would at least appreciate comments on my answers or answers to my question to know what I am doing is helpful or whatnot. That being said, if there were no points and just coments I'd be content. Since there are points, getting them are a BONUS. As in something that is not necessary for me to comment/answer/question something. Does this help at all?
  • points are pointless? It's feedback mostly
  • Points, and the ranks that come with them, serve two purposes to me. Firstly, if someone clones me, the clone is not going to be the same rank as myself. This makes it easier to identify a clone from the original member. Secondly, the higher the rank, the more points you can give. Other than that, while it is nice to get points, they are not very important.
  • Points are just icing on the cake. You're right there are people who are only here to get points, but they're probably fat since icing is mostly sugar.
  • For one thing it shows how much a person contributes to AB, The points aren't given to just any answer or question. Don't forget, AB'ers giveth and taketh away. So when you need some good advice or have some to give the other AB people know what kind of person they are talking to. If a person doesn't play by the rules, they don't play. That's just my opinion. :)
  • A good Q ANd A is most certainly good enough. The points just make it better. It tells you how well you're doing. And I just like seeing all positives. It gives me a good feeling to see my points go up. It's like a pat on the back.
  • Answers and Ratings explains all that if you'll go down the questions and answers in that category
  • I would think that points are like applause.
  • The points are an interesting indicator for the fascination (or ignorance) certain questions and answers can have in the AB community. I do not care so much about the personal levels one can achieve.
  • It's a game that speaks to their competitive nature. If there were no points, and if Answerbag were just a place where people could come look for answers to legitimate questions then there would be a lot fewer members visiting this site. Since it is an advertisement-driven site designed to make profit for the owner then we must assume the owner wants as many people on the site as possible in order to keep ad revenue high. To do that the owner uses the points.
  • Because they are insecure. Sad fact of life.
  • Actually I prefer to read and answer intellectual questions that make me think.
  • Because they like the competition aspect of it all, I suppose. I don't see anything horrendously wrong with that. This isn't a job. It isn't everything, it isn't real life. And points are fun. Course, there are lovely people. But not everyone is here for interaction, and if they want points, it's up to them.
  • I love getting points! But even more than that, I like visiting with my friends! :)
  • You can't generalise, onestly i don't care much about the points, i'm herefor the people, the questions, the answers and the comments. That's much more fun than the points, for me and for many others.
