According to the Harvard School of Public Health, it would appear that while a healthy and balanced diet are recommended, the addition of a multivitamin might also be beneficial. Check out the link below. http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/vitamins.html

In theory, you should be able to get all the needed nutrients from your foods. However, since we have likes and dislikes in our tastes for food, often it is difficult to do so. If you are taking supplements because you know or feel that you might be lacking in certain vitamins or minerals, that would be a good way to supplement your nutrient intake. However, as you know, even with good things, too much can be bad for you.

Both of you to a point. You CAN get what you need from eating a varied and balanced diet...HOWEVER, are you really going to commit to doing that...avoiding processed foods, fast foods, and prepared (boxed) foods 100% every day? Will you take the time to educate yourself as to what your body needs to be healthy and then take the time to cook the correct foods on a daily basis? We don't buy any sort of "prepared" foods in our home, we cook with whole, raw foods. I rarely eat anything remotely like "fast" foods. But, do we eat a healthy, balanced diet EVERY DAY...I think not! I still drink soda now and again, and while it's been well over a month since I went to a McD's, I'm not so assured it won't happen in the next few weeks! Plus, it's not just consuming 5 different servings of your fruits and veggies...but the correct combination of foods at a given meal that help provide and support your getting "all" the value they have to offer!

Foods today are so over-processed that much of what they used to contain in the way of minerals and vitamins is no longer present, necessitating the taking of supplements
