I'll be second best with you :)
There is a place for second-bests. My wife will only play second violin or viola, to support the firsts. My own job requires that I not be a specialist, but "pretty good" rather than the best in half a dozen different things. (I'm a member of a small team translating the Bible into a foreign language. That means I have to be pretty good in five different languages. The only way to be great in any of them would be to ignore the other four.) Medicine is full of specialists, but most of the time you want somebody who's pretty good in everything. P.S. Your picture and personality seem nice, and that's a lot more important!
I'm never best at anything. But if your always second best at things, it's still better than always being worst, right?
That shouldn't even be the main gauge anyway. Have fun and feel good about yourself in what you do, and that may in turn even lead to being better at what you strive to do.

Hate and love are quite similar. One major difference is that hate retains a semblance of rationality. Thoughts?
