After it falls out of the tree it bounces a few times then rolls maybe 4 inches.

It depends how much the apple loved its parents. I've known some apples to export themselves to foreign countries just to be able to relax and unpeel.

Unless there is a slope, and orchards are usually flat, the apples just lie there right under the sheltering branches of the tree. It takes more than a fall and a roll to get away from home.

In relation to hight / inclivity or declivity of ground / weight of apple and hard or softness of the ground all play important factors in determining the length of an apple fall.

If the tree is on a steep hill, the apple could roll pretty far I think.
