Never sleep at a rest stop and make sure your cellphone is always charged. Oh and if you have Verizon, there is little service between Oklahoma City and Albuquerque, NM if you travel I-40.

DON'T TALK TO STRANGERS! No wait...that won't work! BE AWARE at all times. Not paranoid, just aware of who is around you, ways to get away from where you are. Have a mental "game plan" for what you would do, if something were to happen or SOMEONE were to begin bothering you, when you do not want their attention at all! If you travel a lot alone...consider taking a class for women in self defense. Be sure your cell phone is CHARGED and working, carry a camera and a note pad...not just for unhappy situations but for "recording" photos of places you want to remember, moments of beauty. Note pad to write down anything you feel is important...numbers, descriptions or feelings you had when you saw something interesting that you want to remember. Ideally LIFE should be a safe, fun ADVENTURE! Don't go off alone with strangers!

Bring money NOT in cash, checks or credit card form. Use debit cards to withdraw cash as needed or as a replacement to credit cards... or learn to work in very needed, low paying jobs like a waitress or a janitor or some such.
