Question

Help answer this question below.

I often feel faint and start shaking when standing in a line or when paying for something at a store. I know nothing is wrong, yet I feel like I'm going to drop on the floor. How normal is this and what can I do about it?

An immediate treatment for this is a breathing exercise. It seems psychotically generated & that is something a doctor is best addressing - but there is a treatment that can be used at anytime by anyone in cases like this & many others.

I won't ask how you got to (traveled to) the venue where this may occur .. but you did travel there obviously, & it is during this travel time that the treatment I suggest be used best .. as well as when in-line waiting your turn for service. I'll go on.

Breathe in for 4 seconds .. hold the breath 4 seconds & breathe out 4 seconds, so each full breathing cycle is 12 seconds .. air volume is not critical at all ... timing is. Three minutes of this cures headaches, improves vision ... clears the mind of boggling things & really, does a whole lot of other things .. one of which is ..it forced the brain into what we call the "Alpha" state .. the same state the mind is in just as we're falling asleep or while hypnotized .. very, very relaxed. That is the greatest bonus of this exercise.

You see, the Alpha state is also referred to as the healing state .. it's the state of mind the body does its own healing in .. of any kind.

And you end up with more physical energy .. the three minute session lasts about an hour .. the ten minute session, about four hours, though factors like body-weight do play a role in durations mentioned.

Please do this .. while traveling on the bus, train, or while driving to where you're going .. the ten minute session is best if you can do it ... & while standing in-line, shorter sessions are only a bonus naturally.

This is an actual treatment used by millions, especially in Asia where Dalai Lama teaches & taught it, where Steven Segal learned, taught & teaches it .. & where over a million monks from various religions do it as their three month basic training courses. The only difference between those monks & you is, they also chant religious quotes .. yours is purely therapeutic.

It's also a treatment used in many hospitals & such in places like China .. & is used by cancer patients too, of course.

Also good for students if done say just before some big exam .. it has proven to be good for them & is in fact documented for that.

Hint though .. don't use it in the hour before your normal bedtime .. it does actually increase physical energy .. so may interfere with sleep plans. So if you go to bed at midnight, don't do after eleven pm. If done before that time though, you'll see you'll wake up feeling brighter, more cheerful & content too.

But then, I'm just quoting words I know .. all a waste if not tried or used. It is meditation. No chanting or whatever needed though. Therapeutic, not religious.

And if you do that & then find you want to say more about your feelings while in-line, I'm all ears.

It SOUNDS like social anxiety, which can be treated with some success using counseling and possibly medication. That may not be the problem, though.

Does it only happen when you are in public situations? Have you tried forcing yourself to stand up for long periods of time at home? You may be anemic and weak or suffering from vertigo.

I'd see a doctor anyways and just tell them. They might run some tests and refer you to someone who can help you.

This sounds like an anxiety attack, I have them, they are scarey but your doctor can help you with them, you should see yours as soon as you can and get your life back to normal. It took a while for me to go, but I am so glad that I did. Good luck with it, it will get better.

maybe when you are standing in line you tend to completely straighten your legs, locking your knees. i know that you are not supposed to do that when you are singing because it can cause you to feel dizzy/shake/pass-out. so maybe you just need to pay attention and stay loose not locked when you are standing for long periods of time.

Anxiety/panic attack.I would bet my truck on it.I started having during my last deployment mobilization. After that I would get lightheaded, slight tunnel vision,cold/tingly hands.Feel like I just need to get outside and get some air.The breathing exercises at the top really do help. You may have slight agorophobia(sp). You're best bet would be to consult a doc.
