  • Not at my company it's not, I work in Chicago. Not much holiday time either. Glad we're moving back to the UK in that respect!
  • Definitely not America! But those sound amazing. In America, we fake illnesses.
  • It's certainly not true for any entire country. In the United Kingdom, several large companies offer duvet days, but I'm not sure about it's prevalence internationally.
  • I think it depends more on the company than the country. Some places of employment allow the employee to accumulate leave, both vacation and sick, which can be used to take time off with pay. I don't think I've ever heard them called 'duvet' days, but it probably amounts to the same thing as 'mental health' days wherein you are not really sick of anything except work.
  • It depends on each company's policy. At Macy's we had 4 PTO's- Paid Time Off, or Personal Time Off, that we could call in 4 times within 1 year and just say "I'm not coming". But it's ALL dependant on the company policy. It's not a national law.
  • There is no law in America that forces an employer to give a minimum or maximum number of days off. They are required by law to giv a 10 minute break after 4 hours and a 30 minute (not paid) break after 4 if you are scheduled to work 8 or more.
  • Hey, I'm an American. Is a "duvet day" anything like a "bidet day"?
  • In America we do not have any duvet days. They sound divine. There are sick days and vacation days and they are given depending on if you are an hourly or a salaried worker.
  • Some companies have something called "personal days." that is up to them in a free enterprise system.
