Why are some top answers rated as such when they do not even answer the question which was asked?

1. People agree with the stated sentiment and don't realize/ don't care that the question wasn't answered. 2. The answer was particularly clever or amusing.

A lot of the time the first question gets rated no matter what to draw more people to answer the question.People add points to this answer sometimes without reading it properly.

Like America, AnswerBag loves to be entertained. Most of the Answers that are "Top Answer" that did not answer the question simply got points because it entertained.

Some questions may not have a direct yes or no answer. Sometimes the answers given contain much more information about a related subject, that you and i are not aware and have learned something new. Questions can sometimes trigger an off-shoot answer, that's mildly related to the original question. in other words, i wish i had thought of that, so i will give a related answer, but also include some additional information that might be helpful. Sometimes, you just cannot answer a question, with a yes or no answer.
