Luggage can also be useful. When I was getting ready for my mission, one of my Return Missionary cousins recommended that I take a large suitcase as well as the fold-over suitcase and carry-on that I already had. When I entered the Missionary Training Center, I actually had my fold-over filled up and then packed inside of the large suitcase. By the time I came home, I had accumulated enough stuff to completely fill up the large suitcase and then some. (Over half way through my mission I sent home a box of additional stuff that I could no longer carry around with me and had no use for as a missionary.)

Cloths, camera, luggage, or just a small amount of money if he has an bank account that he can use where ever he is going thats the best way cash exchanges can take a lot some times. Really as a missionary, life is basic.

Money, that way they can support themselves a little longer in their mission without being distracted by the worry of income. Who knows best what they need but they themselves? Also if it's to another country, it's easier for them to exchange currency than to try and bring items into some countries.

Once he's out, and if he's serving foreign, I would recommend sending a food item that is not readily available to him. (In Portugal, I missed jalapeno flavor and vanilla extract wasn't initially very easy to come by.) In the MTC, I recommend chips and salsa. When I was there, everybody was getting candy and overall had more than they could deal with. (Oddly enough, a few people were still asking for it. I'll never figure out that obsession.) Overall, there are so few things a missionary really needs. If there's something he needs that you can get, that's great. Otherwise, try to write lots, and creatively. It's the best gift there is for a missionary. (Perhaps stamps would be nice, if he's going to serve in the US.)

I do not know! In Britain there isn't really 'Mormans' so I can't really answer. Btw, what is a mission? (In the context of Mormonism)

The gift of the Holy Spirit. Show Jesus' love for said Mormon. Give them the gift of truth, which will set them free from the bonds of the LDS cult.
