  • Not nearly. It reflects how LOW the chances are of a single sperm fertilizing an egg. The more sperm there are, the more likely it is that the egg will be fertilized. The vagina is actually designed to KILL sperm, so you really need to make sure there are a lot of sperm heading for the goal because most of them aren't even going to get close. It takes millions of sperm to increase the chance of conception. It doesn't mean you have an excuse to sleep around.
  • I was thinking about this the other day and it does seem like a large majority of them seem to be ever so happy to pick up new partners, even if they have someone steady.
  • In a purely biological sense, yes - we evolved with the purpose of reproducing and creating more of us, and to do so men need to be able to produce a hell of a lot of sperm (millions and millions and millions every day?). Mind you, we also make so many because the chances of any individual sperm surviving/finding the egg to fertilise are extremely low. However, there's also quite a lot to suggest that our -social- evolution has favoured those who are faithful to a single (or at a stretch, very very few) partners - some people have suggested that it was once a major factor in sexual selection that a man be faithful to a single partner, offering protection and the ability to go and hunt animals for food effectively - if that man spread his 'protection' and 'food gathering' around a large number of women, the individual benefits are so greatly reduced that only very few (if any) of the children survived. Instead, each man had one (or at a stretch, very very few) partners to whom they committed themselves in order to best allow for the survival and subsequent reproduction of their children. (This is many, many 10's or 100's of thousands of years ago mind you) ***** Nowadays, in any society that allows both men and women sexual autonomy, the choice to have a single partner may be influenced by our deep evolutionary background in doing so, but it's better to consider it a conscious choice by both partners to do so, based off personal preference. Some religions or cultural backgrounds also advocate (and some don't; some prefer polygamy) having only a single partner, so that's also a factor. ***** Essentially, the fact that men produce so much sperm is an indication of how pathetically useless sperm are at fertilising eggs, and how much we, as biological entities, want to reproduce. There is a major preference for single partners within many (though not all) societies because of a variety of reasons, including culture, religion, mere personal choice, social pressure (for whatever reason), and even to a degree a possible evolutionary background that favoured the faithful couples over the promiscuous.
  • Oh, I love it when you talk dirty!!! Will you fertilize me????
  • its prgrammed into mens brain to reproduce as much as possible and womens minds are programmed to "nest" raise childeren etc. thats just how it was in caveman days and unfortunatley that programming in our minds has not changed much. hence most women are the ones wanting to settle etc. worrying about there men watching porn... give him a brake!
  • It can suggest that, if you think that's why men are so fertile creatures. But the fact is men produce millions of sperm with every ejaculation so that the sperm can deal with the uninhabitable environment of the female reproductive tract. Producing so much sperm gives a man a better chance that he'll be able to get a woman pregnant and hence further his genes. But yes, as a man I would much rather think that our super fertility gives us a good reason to have as many partners as possible!!
  • Really good answers here. Just want to add that I think it was men who came up with the idea of marriage. Probably because they have an adorably slight tendency to possessiveness and claiming what they believe is theirs.
  • All the women in the world in 2 weeks? That depends on how much Vitamin E I can get my hands on. And, yes, the mammalian reproductive system seems to suggest multiple partners. Strangely enough, several species other than humans also mate for life, practicing monogamy in nature.
  • If I fertilize does that mean I can plow the field, till the back forty, plant seed, milk the cow?
  • ABSOLUTELY NOT! THAT IS THE THINKING OF A NARROW MIND. WHAT WOULD THE REST OF THE MEN DO IF YOU TOOK ALL THE WOMEN? SEE HOW SILLY YOUR ASSUMPTION IS? IT IS AS SILLY AS THAT WOMEN SHOULD HAVE AS MANY HUSBANDS AS SHE WANTS...THAT WOULD SEEM MORE LOGICAL BECAUSE MEN ARE SUPPOSE TO WORK (ACCORDING TO SOCIETY) THEREFORE SHE WOULD HAVE CREATED A GREAT INVESTMENT! SEE HOW SILLY IT SOUNDS? PEOPLE JUST NEED TO LEARN THAT A MIND NOT PUT TO GOOD USE, ONLY THINKS DUMB THINGS. THAT IS A FACT. IF YOU ARE BUSY STUDYING, READING, OR WORKING, YOU WOULD HAVE NO TIME TO WASTE. ONE WOMAN WOULD BE MORE THAN ENOUGH. THERE WAS A JOKE TOLD TO ME: A MAN WENT TO HEAVEN & ASKED ST. PETER TO LET HIM INTO HEAVEN, ST. PETER SAID, WERE YOU MARRIED? YES THE MAN SAID: ONCE. THE NEXT MAN HEARD THAT AND CAME TO THE GATE AND SAID TO ST. PETER, PLEASE LET ME IN. ST PETER SAID , HAVE YOU BEEN MARRIED? OH YES, TWICE IN FACT. ...ST. PETER SAID, YOU CAN'T COME IN... YOU COULDN'T LEARN THE FIRST TIME? YOU CAN'T COME IN...HMMM...AC.
  • SO YOU DIDN'T LIKE THE CONCEPT THAT IT WOULD BE WISE FOR A WOMAN TO HAVE MANY HUSBANDS AND BECOME VERY WEALTHY?...IT WORKED WITH ELIZABETH TAYLOR AND ZSA ZSA GABOR AND HER SISTERS! I PERSONALLY WOULD PREFER JUST ONE GOOD MAN THAT I DON'T HAVE TO SHARE....AC
  • Oh the answer to that is so simple. YES! However, it is not acceptable in society to say that, so NO! But our genes are telling us YES! But our church is telling us NO! And now you know why us men are so fucked up!!!
  • Yes it does to a certain extent. Mans whole purpose is to go forth and procreate while the woman's purpose is to raise children. It is naturally born into men to have multiple partners and for women to nurture their children. Now with women's lib this fact is considered sexist.
