It seems that he will do anything for a mate! Sad that a man who claims to have such high ideals can make such an error of propriety. I am off to bed Nelson see you later!

Libby was not convicted of or charged with treason. How could that action be congruent with the conclusion?
-
Tacetly, but remember, treason in Bush's eyes probably means betraying HIM, not betraying the country. Bush (or rather, Cheney) was the one who wanted to punish Joseph Wilson in the first place, for not following the party line about Iraq possessing weapons of mass destruction. Wilson's wife was the most vulnerable target, and they did not seem to care that outing her would weaken our national security and compromise missions abroad. If you believe the President IS America, then following his orders, whether legal or illegal, is not treason. However, if you believe the national interest should outweigh the wishes of the President, then both Cheney and Libby should have been indicted for treason. Sadly, it doesn't seem like any of these crooks are going to get their just desserts.

He's thumbed his nose at everything else, why not thumb it at the judicial system? According to the schoolyard bully Bush, he's the "decider", he gets to "decide", and screw the American people if they don't like it. Only 18 and a half months before we can thumb our nose at him forever!! If the US elects Donald Duck president, it would have to be an improvement over having Goofy for the last 8 years!!

I just saw the headlines in the newspaper today. Somehow I am not surprised. I am not even concerned that somehow Scooter will get all that money to pay his fine somehow either. Honestly, this is his reward for being such a good fallguy that his cronyism has been rewarded. Par for the couse from this Lame Duck as far as things go.

Nelson-PNW-ATC - I understand. I was making a technical point that I thought was important. As to Bush's pronouncements and anger, he is usually off base with them and it is always a plus when he does not act as an avenging angel. I suspect that everything happened under his specific or implied orders and that it would be wrong to let an otherwise decent, family man go to prison for carrying out his President's plan. The man has what I would consider an adequate penalty, a huge fine and probation. He is no danger to society and his life is already ruined. I never wish ill to any of my enemies and it irks me when Republicans and Democrats go after each other and want to put each other in jail. Yes, it was a serious crime and yes the President and Vice President misused power, but in this case, what he did was motivated by the right stuff inside of them. I cannot see any redemptive purpose in the man going to jail, but even if he did, it would be for obstruction of justice and not for treason. But of course, this is from a guy who thought Ford was right to pardon Nixon <grin> - and a Democrat too. By the way, I like you too and respect your opinion in this matter.
