  • Insurance companies exist to make a profit and this is why they won't cover pre-existing conditions. After all, they would be undertaking a contract on which they would be almost certain to lose money, which is the opposite of their function. Don't be fooled into thinking that any insurance company or bank is there to provide you with a service because I'm afraid they are not.
  • No, it's not fair. It doesn't make sense either.
  • As Milton Friedman said, we are not an economy built on fairness, but freedom. The free market makes the rules and the free market says that if you insure higher risk people, the cost for all goes up. Is it fair? Perhaps. Is it free? Definitely. Is it right in a compassionate society? Perhaps not. Should something be done? Yes. I would like that very muc, but I don't think we can blame the insurances companies for holding down their costs. We all have to decide that all of us are at risk of catastrophic medical setbacks and determine as a society whether or not we wish to build a safety net to which we all contribute.
  • It's absolutely absurd! That's like going to a restaurant to buy food, but you've already eaten once that day and they don't serve you because it.
