  • It is perfectly safe to light them. As with any firework, safety is something you should always be careful of, but the pyrotechnic compounds in modern fireworks are very stable at room temperature, and should work just fine as long as you didn't get them wet. You've probably bought fireworks that have been sitting in a warehouse longer than two years before and set them off without even realizing it. There's no guarantee that freshly bought fireworks would be any safer, newer, or free from defects.

  • Probably safe to light: it is unlikely to explode, but it may not work, or it may hang fire and work slowly. But if it does not work, do NOT check it or try to light it again. Leave for several minutes, then pour water over over it before attempting to move it.
