  • I know people that have been on the pill for 20 years without a break. Not advised but they do not seem to have had any problems so far. Maybe it depends apon the individual but I have never heard a year is a problem.
  • The pill is safe, and I've never heard anything about the length of time you are on it being a factor. The only thing I'd question are the new 'no period' pills. Those just haven't been tested enough, for long enough. That just don't seem right.
  • I don't think that you need to "take a break" from the pill. Either be on it, or stop taking it altogether. As for me, I've been on the pill for 8 years with no health effects. I'm going to be switching pills or stopping them soon because of the significant decrease in libido that it's caused, but other than that one (major) issue (for me) I really have no complaints.
  • Good effort! I have only broken one pill and that was an accident.
  • I was on the pill from 17 to 29. After 25 I started to put on a lot of weight because of it. I know it was the pill that caused the weight gain because as soon as I stopped taking it, the pounds literally melted off me. I think it is okay as long as you aren't having any side effects from it.
  • I think it's great. Way to be in control of your reproduction! I wouldn't advise going off the pill, unless you plan on using another reliable method of birth control in it's place EVERY TIME YOU HAVE SEX. It's easier to get pregnant when you first come off the pill, too, so be really careful. Why would you want to go off the pill, anyway?
  • A good thing and one to be applauded. It shows responsability and maturity on your part to be doing so well with it. Amd if it ain't broke don't fix it.
  • Been there, done it, doing it - no problem. If you get break-through bleeding or spotting then have your 7 day break.
  • I think it depends on each person. I was on it for 10 years with no break and had no problems. Even had two babies afterward.
  • well i have done it for about a year also.. the only problem about not having a period is not knowing if you pregnant because they aint 100% so i take a test every so often just to make sure. i think its great not having a period, its just to messy and painful. im glad somebody asked this question actually i was begining to wonder about it myself!
  • It is fine. Any form of birth control increases your risk for osteoporosis or if you smoke blood clots. So take vitamins, drink mild for strong bones and don't smoke. I was on the birth control shot for 7 years and I never had my period. I am perfectly fine.
  • Do you mean skipping 12 periods?? If so, I wouldn't do that. I have skipped 3-4 at a time but I wouldn't do 12. If you skip too many, when you finally do have a period, your cycle will be all screwed up.
