  • After a cleaning with vinegar and water (1 cup to a gallon of warm to hot water) follow with putting a cup of baking soda in each cupboard space (keep it in a cup) It will eventually absorb the odors. Ideally they need to be opened and washed and left open for a few days - perhaps even a fresh coat of paint. Musty can be confused with mold/mildew - usually hides under the paper that people line cupboards and drawers with - so take out all of that and clean - if you do find mold/mildew a solution of 1/2 cup bleach to a sprayer bottle of water sprayed as is and allowed to sit 5 to 10 minutes on the mold/mildew followed by a complete cleaning with soapy water and 3-4 rinses with clean plain water should cut the mold/mildew. Allow the area to completely dry before putting paper back in - over night is best with the drawer/door open and lots of air circulation. Also, musty smell can be the paper itself, of course remove, clean underneath and reline the area or paint.
  • First clean it with a bleach solution in case there is mildew or mold in it. Then rinse with some baking soda and leave the doors open overnight to air out. That should help a lot.
