I have no idea about the clothes thing, but I know that mormons believe that each child they bring into the world equals, for the parents, another level of heaven. EX. 9 children = ninth layer of heaven.

Mormons making their own clothes... There could be a good essay written on that topic; for both topics actually. I know of two reasons why some members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints make their own clothing. First, there is modesty. The difficulty women have in finding modest, or otherwise properly fitting clothing, has spawned a bit of a sub-industry in modest clothing. This is not exclusively a Mormon movement, but is one in which many Mormons are actively involved. I would say we comprise a rather significant chunk of the producers and consumers in the market. (I personally have two acquaintances selling products for that market and my wife's wedding dress was purchased from one of those acquaintances.) The second reason is self-reliance. Our prophets have always taught us that we should learn to be as self-reliant as possible. We store food, we grow gardens, we learn about emergency preparedness and first aid, and we learn important skills, important to provide life's necessities and comforts, such as making clothing. As far as having lots of babies goes, I will cite from "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" ( http://www.lds.org/library/display/0,4945,161-1-11-1,00.html ): "The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God's commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force." We also have Psalms 127:3 "Children are an heritage of the Lord" More could be said, but I think that will suffice.

Most Mormons that I know buy their clothing from stores, like normal people. Amish people on the other hand.....LDS people revere children as a blessing, some couples want more blessings lol.
