Sleep aids of any kind often cause drowsiness the following day or days - this is a common side effect. The trick is to find a balance between a drug's effectiveness as a sleep aid (postive qualities) and the amount of drowsiness it causes you (negative qualities). If you are frequently find yourself requiring a nap the following afternoon (i.e., a chronic problem), discuss the matter with your doctor, who will adjust the dosage or the drug. Once you are familiar with the behaviour of such drugs in your body, you may find that you can adjust the dosage yourself, with your doctor's approval, provided you do not exceed a maximum daily consumption. You should try and use as little as needed - these drugs work better that way over the long term and don't leave you so tired.

If you haven't taken Seroquel before, it's not unusual at all.

400mg of Seroquel is actually a pretty hefty dose. Part of Seroquel's action is antihistaminic/antimuscarinic which probably will cause sleepiness, sedation, dry mouth, dry nose and eyes, confusion and sluggishness.

Diazepam is going to be synergistic in this situation - 15mg to a 'naive' person (system does not have any benzodiazepines in it) is a potent dose. 15mg to a regular user probably would be sedating but not much more than 4-6 hours.

Each persons' metabolism is different, however.

The only thing you can do is wait for it to be out of your system and not to drive nor operate heavy machinery.

Go know thyself is THE RED QUEEN

Whoever prescribed this to you, (if one person) needs a swift kick in the booty!

You shouldn't mix both Valium and Seroquel at such high doses as both have a calming effect and one is a different class of drug all together and can become addictive among other things.

Seroquel also has this tendency (even though it is not a class II) because it wears off (builds tolerance) faster than some others... Did you get them from two different doctors or from the same doctor?

Does he/she even know you are on both?

Maybe the seroquel isin't working anymore on its own and you should consider starting on something else, as all of these types of drugs "time-out" eventually and you have to constantly reconsider and change your therapy no matter what you are taking.

Im sure that there will be hundreds of people out there with degrees that will disagree and say "It is harmless to mix." But it isin't really and you all know it! What the heck right? Its not you!

    *Sigh... I loathe pharmacological psychcology!

I take 300MG seroquel for Bi-Polar problems. The seroquel alone has made a tremendous difference in my life. However recently I have been under more anxiety, stress and ddepression than most people can handle. The seroquel only works if some of my brain chemicals are along side, but recently when I suffered a great loss in my family and am most likely going to become homeless due to the Real estate probs which i cannot help on my own ..blah blah blah, my doctor prescribed Valium 5-10 mgs every 4-6 hrs to help me stop crying and stop the depression from setting in. In my case the meds keep me from absolutely irrational behavior and depression to the point of potential self injury.

From what I am told and have read, for my type of brain chemicals deficiency, it is not uncommon for doctors to prescribe both. But for sleep only, I would think Benedryl (over the counter could work as well with out risk of dependency.
I may be off base here but this is what I was taught. DO NOT DRINK while on any of those drugs. Could be deadly

why 400mg of seroquel AND 15mg of diazepam?
i have no idea about ur brain's chemistry but that sounds like and intense sleep aid. half of either would get me to sleep and i'm a chronic marijuana smoker (been smoking everyday, atleast to get to sleep for the past 3 years) so wen i hav exams or something i need my brain in gear for i would usually pop a 200mg seroquel or even as low as 5mg of valium or even 2mg of lorazepam. consider other benzo's, i find lorazepam a much better sleep aid then val(diaz), tamazepam somewhere in between.

Yes it is usual to feel tired the next day. I have been taking both seroquel and valium to help get to sleep for 4months now and i find it nearly impossible to climb out of bed in the morning due to the prolonged sleepiness. Mind you i was taking them, then jumping in bed straight away. I have started making sure i take them at least 2 hours before i go to bed,i have found from experience this greatly decreases the tiredness the next day. I hope this helps
