With all the comic books made in to films these days, what was the first film made based on a comic? i think it was flash gordon.

Superman was 2 years before Flash in 1978.. Actually I would guess it was a Dracula movie from the 30's

I believe that is correct: Flash Gordon was featured in three serials starring Buster Crabbe: Flash Gordon (1936), Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars (1938), and Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe (1940). The earliest comic book movie that I can recall was the 1951 Superman and the Mole Men. Flash Gordon and Dracula were not comic books at the time they were made. There were also several comic book based serials during the 30's and 40's...Batman, SUperman, Blackhawk and others base on comic books. But as far as an actual movie. I think Superman and the Mole Men in 1951 was the first.
