  • The Romans did not consider themselves vile, just as the Nazis did not consider themselves vile, and Stalinist Russians did not consider themselves vile, and Christians do not consider themselves vile, and the British Empire did not consider themselves vile, and in modern times, the United States dos not consider itself vile. It's the people who are being conquered by them that think they are vile. They all think they are spreading something they think is good: "Pax Romana" or "Aryan Law" or "ownership of production" or "salvation" or "democracy". It did not mater to them that none of those people wanted these things.
