  • I remember when I was training with the Royal Marines. A young guy was kicked out of his troop to a junior troop, for an injury he had no control over. He was in rehab on camp for weeks, and he was determined to leave because he was out of his troop. I had experience here, and I asked him "Did you come here to pass out with that troop, or did you come here to be a Royal Marines Commando?". The answer was obviously the latter, and his doubts literally dissolved there and then, despite his enormous challenges ahead (the commando training + rehab and injury). Here, I've just reminded him what his real aim was. Sure, he was attached, but that's just natural when you're living and eating with a group of men. I always like to think of others when things get tough. Puts things in perspective. My water bill is too much; but I do have water. I can't go out clubbing with my friends; but I've got a home I can stay in tonight, and I've got food to eat. I like to make all of my problems seem completely insignificant, despite the fact that they could be extremely serious.
