Its a word that means a person of mixed black and white ancestry or the offspring of one white parent and one black parent. In that example no, but depending on how it was used I guess it could be taken as an insult yes.

This is how my friend describes herself, so I would say no. However, I'm sure it could be as offensive as the word "gay", coming out of the wrong mouth.

I don't know about offensive, but I think it is an old term. Don't see it used much.

Mulatto, quadroon, etc., are differentiations that come from slavery to help discern the value (money) of purchasing a human being. And yes, in my opinion, all those archaic terms are offensive.
