  • Long hair, camper vans, bright colours, "mannnnnn" The reason for it is simple, its a stereotype
  • Cool, loveable, chilled out dudes with lots of love to spread! :D
  • "If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair..." I remember hearing that song for the first time on Aussie radio, with the DJ saying "That song is about a new movement in America, called the hippies...". I came in on the end of the era, wore cheesecloth and mirrored blouses, my hair long, no makeup. Denim and sandals, folk music...that was the way I became a Jesus Person. Since then, I have never accepted the status quo, always pushed boundaries, accepted no crap, and pushed for honesty and caring. The hippies had their faults. They identified problems in society, but were unable to fix them. By becoming a Jesus Person I took on their struggle, but with a solution.

  • Sell Out! Here's a quote from George Carlin and his view of the sell out hippie generation; CARLIN: Something else I'm a little tired of hearing about, the baby boomers. Whiny, narcissistic, self-indulgent people with a simple philosophy: "Give me it. It's mine. Give me that. It's mine." These people were given everything. Everything was handed to them. And they took it all, took it all: sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. And they stayed loaded for 20 years and had a free ride. But now they're staring down the barrel of middle-age burnout and they don't like it. They don't like. So they turn self-righteous and they want to make things hard on younger people. They tell them abstain from sex, say no to drugs. As for the rock'n'roll, they sold that for television commercials a long time ago so they could buy pasta machines and Stair Masters and soybean futures. Soybean futures.
  • I must think of that song: The Flowerpotmen -Let's go to San Francisco (25.11.1967) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o0NeyhkBls
  • Long hair, flowered brightly colored patterns, drugs, and my uncle. It all comes from a picture of my uncle as best man in my parents' wedding. He was wearing his best jeans... the ones with the flowered patches on the knees, and a headband in his long hair.

  • Is someone talking about me? I like to call myself a hippie, but when I mention it people (with their ever-clever minds) make dumb jokes about pot, so I've dropped it to see if they make the hippie reference on their own. I'm a dork; I think it's a compliment.

  • I think flower wreaths and dancing, happiness.... and peace, meditation and a world view very different from most.... I think 60's and 70's and I wish I had been there..... I feel like a hippie, even today and even drug-less..... I think freedom, true freedom .... Also a few songs come to mind..... And the sign said "Long-haired freaky people need not apply" So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why He said "You look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you'll do" So I took off my hat, I said "Imagine that. Huh! Me workin' for you!" Whoa-oh-oh Sign, sign, everywhere a sign Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign? ........ One pill makes you larger And one pill makes you small, And the ones that mother gives you Don't do anything at all. Go ask Alice When she's ten feet tall. And if you go chasing rabbits And you know you're going to fall, Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar Has given you the call. ...... And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never shared No one dared Disturb the sound of silence "Fools," said I, "you do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence ......... and a few others..... ah I love the music of the hippie era.....
