Why can't alum. and cast iron water pumps be interchanged on classic mustangs (64-70)

One reason I've heard, and experienced with my 67 Ranchero w/ a 390 was that the alum. pump will warp due to the massive heat put out by the motor...the cast iron one was of course designed for this. Besides...you'll gain next to nothing using the alum one anyway...a little better looking is all...but you can get the iron one plated about as cheaply if that's what you're after. The alum. one will crap out pretty quick anyways...it will warp and could possibly damage the engine.
