If you have 20/20 vision, it means that you can see at 20 feet what an average person can see at 20 feet.

The term 20/20 refers to the "average" or "normal" ability to see (usually judged by print) at 20 feet away. It is NOT a score of 20 out of 20 or "perfect vision". Some people can see 20/15 which is to say that they can see at 20 feet what the "average" person (20/20) could see at 15 feet away. This is somewhat of a "sliding scale" as the average is never a constant per se and the extremes are too difficult to measure. Even within 20/20 vision there can be a significant difference in people’s vision. If you have 20/40 vision you see at 20 feet away what an average person see's at 40 feet away.
