Forgive my answer for being a little cynical. The US rewards people for learning English by not discriminating against them quite as much. More optimistically, yes, it is advantageous. English has a rich cultural and literary history. Financially, it will help you not only in the US, but around the world. It opens doors and raises the ceiling of opportunity. It pays you to learn it well. The better your American accent and usage, the more you can advance. Socially, it will help you because you can associate with a wider range of people and many of them will take you more seriously if you speak the local language well. I urge you to hang onto you native language and spread it as much as you can. Nonetheless, learn English well, practice it carefully and you will benefit greatly.
