There is this nasty tasting stuff that you can buy at the pharmacy that will help him stop...but it will only work if he actually puts it on his nails, and men can be stubborn!

Let him know that under his nails is bacteria's favorite place to be and that he is more likely to get sick then be more hygenic by chewing his nails.

this question did not deserve a down rating so the NRA team + rated you. I really wish I could give you a sure fire way to rid you of this problem but the fact is a full grown man should know better but most likely isn't going to listen to reason. you can offer to keep his nails trimmed for him this might work. Great question thanks for asking it.
