  • I'd say that sounds like a normal reaction to me. When I stay in a hotel, I tend to feel less secure than when I'm at home. The sounds are different, it's difficult to shuffle to the bathroom in the dark without stubbing a toe, and I miss my cat at the foot of my bed. I'm betting that the extra bit of insecurity you're feeling makes you want to distance yourself from other people. Sleeping in the same bed with someone takes a level of trust and that is often hard for victims of abuse to come by. If your abuser was a family member, I think it makes even more sense. Do whatever you have to do to feel safe and comfortable. Even if that means freezing on the floor. It would be much more pleasant for you if you just got a bed to yourself, though. If you can't afford that luxury, you can buy a collapsible cot that you can take with you or ask the hotel if they have one.
