  • I'm assuming that you use Internet Explorer, but the system is similar with other browsers. Click on the Tools menu and select Internet Options. Click on the Content tab and click on the button labelled Enable. In the Content Advisor dialog box select the level of control you want for each of the types of content that are listed.
  • The internet explorer options are limited, personally I recommend you google search free downloads parental control software, there are several good sites and the software is safe to download. I recommend programs called Aye and Crawler but there are several good free programs available. Goodluck!
  • Everyone has the right of course to try to limit what their children can view on the internet. But I should caution those that would make use of software to achieve this purpose. Typical net-nanny software is far from perfect and can lead to a false sense of security. Because while this software may be marketed as being very effective at blocking objectionable content, the truth is far different. This software does not in fact block every site you wouldn't want your child visiting, because not every site plays by any sort of rules. There is also the fact that the filtering often block sites that are perfectly legitimate - but are blocked because of an errant word in the content taken out of context. The most effective way to control your children's internet habits is to educate them on the perils of the web and by putting their computer in a place where they are not out of sight. Security experts have been saying this for years and I am disappointed that net nanny solutions are still touted as an acceptable practise, because they do not work well.
  • There is lots of good software, but there is also a wonderful accountability program offered by http://xxxchurch.com that actually sends out a monthly report of sites visited to up to 3 people you designate.
