  • Do you mean dresses that always extend down to their ankles? (Skirts refer to those that end above the knee.)
  • They are applying Deuteronomy 22:5, which says: A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor a man wear women's clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this. So a woman is forbidden to wear slacks, since this is seen as a male garment. I believe, however, that there is a difference between men's pants and women's. Most straight men I know wouldn't want to wear women's slacks.
  • Pentecostal women wear skirts and dresses and split skirts out of a desire to be modest. It has nothing to do with fear or legalism. In the same congregation you can find women who wear t-shirts and slacks and women who are wearing dresses and skirts. However, if you really want to know this, perhaps you should ask one.
  • No they do not wear them to the floor all the time but usually they wear them at least to their knees. I have to disagree with you Lovebird because whether or not we want to acknowledge it women in America just started wearing pants about 50 yrs ago. This includes women that were Pentecostals and those that were not because skirts have always been looked at as modest. But ponder about this… why is it that there is usually a difference in dress amongst men and women in most religions around the world. If we choose to dismiss the scripture Deuteronomy 22:5 as merely meaning the difference in the cut of women and men’s pants then where should the line be drawn. I have heard people say men should wear lose pants and women should where fitted pants. But then how much is too fitted, and what about the wide leg pants that are in style now? What is so different between them and men’s pants? I think research should really be done before we dismiss this scripture because in the original King James Version it says God looks at it as an abomination, which means God hates it. So we should make sure we are correct in interpreting it.
  • To keep from violating decency laws? ;-)
  • Easy access in the heat of the moment. If they were wearing pants, it would take a bit longer to get them off, and in that time they could begin to feel guilty about the lustful feelings they're having and call the event off...
  • I'm going to have to disagree with Stylish, and agree with Lovebird. I am from a Pentecostal church, and before I go on.. 1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. There should be no confusion about the scripture Deuteronomy 22:5, or any other scriptures in the Bible. Women of our Faith wear skirts because of the fact that either way you look at it, it is NOT the garment of a man. The devil tries to beat around the bush, by making people think that it's okay to wear pants..because there is a "clear distinction" between womens pants and mens pants, but pants were made for men in the first place, and the women that started wearing them in the 50s wanted to become "equal" to a man and have the same rights and therefore they started wearing pants that were just "a little more fitting". My point still remains that by just sticking to skirts you're safe because that is the CLEAREST distinction in clothes between a man and a woman, so it's better to be safe than sorry. God Bless.
  • We wear them to be modest.
  • NEVER HAVE I SEEN SUCH INTEREST IN SOMETHING SO SMALL. I AM PROUD TO SAY THAT I AM A UPC GIRL AND NEVER WOULD I WEAR PANTS. BUT WHY DONT YOU ALL ASK WHAT THE PENTECOSTALS BELIEVE? WHAT IS THE CHURCH ABOUT? INSTEAD OF WORRYING ABOUT THINGS THAT DONT MATTER.. GOD SAYS IT IS AN ABOMINATION. WHICH MEANS IT IS DISGUSTING TO HIM. HE IS THE SAME YESTERDAY TODAY AND ALWAYS..HE DOES NOT CHANGE HIS MIND BECAUSE THE TIMES HAVE CHANGED.. NO ONE WOULD LET THEIR SONS LEAVE THE HOUSE IN A DRESS.... SO WHY LET YOUR DAUGHTER LEAVE IN PANTS? ANYONE WHO FIGHTS THIS HAS NOT SERIOUSLY READ THE BIBLE.. IT IS IN BLACK AND WHITE.
  • Pentecostals wear skirts because they believe in dressing up for the Lord and looking nice for Him each and every day. If you take a look at lawyers and office workers, the women tend to wear skirts/dresses a lot for work. It makes them look professional and nice. This is what Pentecostals are trying to achieve for their God. Not only that but Pentecostals don't believe in cutting their hair or wearing make-up, so the skirt/dress compensates for that.
  • Because they're comfortable and stylish? ;-)
  • I think they take the scripture about women not wearing men's garments a little out of context. When the Bible was written, there was no such thing as pants for either gender. The men and women both wore flowing clothes that covered everything. The men's robes had special marking and were therefore women were forbidden to wear them. That being said I think there is a huge problem with modesty all across the board, both in church and out. Skirts tend to be more modest, yes, so they wear them. Their reasoning for thinking they HAVE to is faulty. And what about tops? I have seen UPC teenagers wearing skirts with tops so tight you could see everything. Where is the modesty in that? It's picking one thing and doing it because everyone else does without finding out why.
  • Another person of another religion told me, its because there husbands brainwashed their wives about that new religion so they can control their ways. the husbands are afraid they will loose their wife to another man if they dress like normal women do. is that true?
  • Cross-dressing seems to be a popular trend among the religious. Look at the Catholics, they love their dresses
  • As a pentecostal, i do not wear skirts to dress up or to make up for not cutting our hair or not wearing makeup. Everything i do is because the BIBLE tells me so. 1LORD1FAITH descibed it well by saying our God is the same yesterday today and forever. So if He said in the Bible a woman shouldnt wear a mans clothes, then you still shouldnt. And as for before when mem wore cloaks, there was still a difference between the mans and womans. The man would gird up the loins of his cloak and tuck it in to his belt like rope and it would appear as now called pants. Skirts have always been womans clothing before the rebellious movement that lead to wearing pants, but as it says in 1 Sam 15:23 Rebellion is a form of witchcraft!
  • I watched this video called "Subconscious Sexual Signals." The information in it was from scientists that were not pentecostal or apostolic. they talked about where men's eyes are drawn to. one spot was the crotch of a girl. if you are wearing a skirt you cannot see this. as a pentecostal, i wear skirts because it is modest. it is not drawing the eye to anywhere it shouldn't go. also, if you aren't selling it, don't advertise it! and for the people who say things like "men wear kilts" they are just looking to debate and find loop holes in our religion. if you really want to understand, read the bible.
  • I truely believe it has nothing to do with being Apostolic/Pentecostal in wearing skirts. It has everything to do with obeying God, and understanding the principles behind this as taught in scripture. Methodists,Lutherans, and many others chose to dress modestly in obediance to scripture in the past and have since lifted this modesty standard due mostly to either cultural and congregational preassure. It does not do scripture justice when it is delegated to pentecostals only. Its just that Pentecostals seem to be one of the few who see and understand the significance of this. This is not legalism in anyway nor was it delegated to just Old Testament/Law times, but in obedience to God. He has always asked his people to be seperate in every aspect of our lives from those of the secular and religiouse world. If this standard is just thought of as Law and of no regard for today let me toss a few thoughts your way.The 10 Commandments is Old Testament.Should we disguard them now tha we are in grace period? What about Ministers and Pastors wearing dresses on the pulpit? Should men be allowed such a practice as long as the dress or skirt it cut/taylored for a man? Its sad that we look for things and disguard them as salvationa/non-salvational issues. This practice is not cerimonial in anyway but more of a moral issue which makes it still in effect today. Can anybody walk through walmart and not see the effects of blurring the genders in attire young woman wearing clothing extremely revealing showing their undergarments and more.I applaude ever Lady both young and old for obedience to Gods word. It may not be convenient to obey scripture but its always the best thing to do.Gods word is forever settled in heaven.
  • I'm Pentecostal and I wear a dress or skirt to church, makeup too, some jewelry, and I dye my hair blonde to hide the gray, only reason. This has been one of the biggest issues in the Pentecostal faith along with the difference between being a oneness Pentecostal or one who believes in Trinity. I know what Deuteronomy 22:5 says and the Bible was written way before pants even came into play. I guess you can say the Muslims or Islamic faith has it correct when the women are covered and the married ones with a veil over the face only showing their eyes. Maybe the Amish are correct in the way they are, wow, you can definately tell the difference between them and the usual wicked world. A good example of a self proclaimed Pentecostal named Jan Crouch, not sure who she is,check out TBN,you can't miss her! I've seen her in pants, her hair sometimes looks pinkish, and she is Halloween with her makeup compared to me. I honestly believe we will leave this world the way we came in(I didn't come out the womb in a dress). Modesty is complete common sense,if you are right with God and denied yourself and decided to pick up your cross and walk with Him,then, everything you once did does change, not what other fleshy people like me and others tell you what you should and shouldn't do.God could care less about the length of your hair or weather you wear pants or a dress everyday, what he is after is your heart and your soul given to Him.
