  • Because, if Satan could get Jesus to commit even one sin, then He would have been disqualified from being the Savior of the world. Redemption required the sacrifice of a perfect individual, one who did not have sins of his own to pay for. If Jesus had sinned even once, then He would not have been able to pay for ours. If He had not been able to pay for our sins, then none of us would have been able to be redeemed and we would all be consigned to eternal misery with the devil and his angels. This is what they want. They want to thwart God's plan of redemption. So, Satan tempted Christ in an attempt to destroy the plan of salvation.
  • I believe that he was trying to get Christ to sin because if he could get Him to sin, then He could not be our Lord and Savior and we would have had no hope to escape from hell. Jesus Christ was and still is the Devil's worst enemy, and his worst fear. Satan failed to get Jesus to sin against God because Jesus was the perfect and sinless Son of God. I hope that this is helpful. -In the service of King Jesus. Thank you and God bless you!
  • That is the role of Satan. To trap the rest of us in the ever-gnawing, ever continuing cycle of desire. The open palm of desire, it wants everything, it wants everything, it wants everything. That is Satan, always wanting, never satisified, never, ever content.
  • According to the OT, that is the role of Satan. If you read the book of Job there's an interesting exchange between God and Satan, as between old friends, in which God agrees with Satan that he should put Job through all kinds of difficult times to see whether Job's resolve or faith is shaken. Satan, in the temptations of Jesus, seems to be fulfilling the same role.
  • It shows from this section of the bible, that Jesus and God are different, for how could God ever be tempted? He owns everything. How could Satan tempt him with the kingdoms of the world if they were his already? It makes good questions arise. Also, it shows why Satan is viewed in such a bad light. His whole purpose is to defame the creator, and to hurt mankind with pure hatred. People who have sympathy for Satan don't know him very well at all. He doesn't even want to look after his own.
