Have you actually tried using the in-game little connector thing to set up a connection? If you havn't you're far behind. It should show up your network. Some routers just don't want to work with certain things, and possibly your router isn't going to cut it. You have 2 options from then on. You could 1. go and buy the computer adapter which lets you essentially leech internet off of your computer, or you could 2. go and buy a newer router.

Sometimes if your router isn't that great, it's almost impossible. My family probably got the cheapest router we could so I can only stay connected to wi-fi for about four minutes and then I lose my connection... so, I would say put up the extra cash for a good one. Besides that, to set up the wi-fi you have you have a wi-fi compatible game. It normally shows you on the main menu your option to do this. On the games I have, it searched for a connection, found our wireless, and then I had to enter our WEP code cuz it's protected. It's really easy actually. Good luck!

You should get the offical Nintendo wireless router you plug into the USB drive on your computer. It works with the Wii and the DS.
