Use my Nintendo DS, read a book I usually bring along, or sleep until the next destination.

Play Catch Phrase, we all play it taking turns & it passes the time quicker. Also picnics I enjoy having a nice snack with the kids at a scenic area & stretching for a while. And catching up on what all happened at school or how things are going with their friends. You can find out alot of interesting things about your kids & family within 8-14 hour trips.

Read and listen to some music i usually read wile I'm listening to my I pod.

I always liked playing games such as the what did I just see game while driving and it has to be eliminated by questions such as is it alive, metal, etc... I also like the one where we pick a category and have to guess the next letter such as breeds of dogs where certain letters such as x or q don't count. The last person not to get three strikes picks the next category.

I love to read out loud to my husband while we drive along. I enjoy stopping and seeing things along the way, talking morning walks in a new place. I like trying an exciting diner or small local mom and pop cafe where the locals eat.

Start out early in the morning while its dark and be somewhere unfamiliar by the time the sun comes up. Drive through large cities at 3am. Also check out some public restrooms.

If I'm a passenger, I enjoy reading and preferably a book on the area that I'm in. If I'm driving, I like low music, passenger(s) to talk to and a hands-free mobile phone.

I love looking at the map and taking little breaks in state parks allow the way. I once went to one that was a huge dam that you could climb down into because there was no water in it. It had huge rock cliffs that went up on either side and tall grass. It was sort of like being on another planet for a little while and totally worth the stop.
