  • I can't speak for nationally but when I was locked up each of the county jails had a jumpsuit of a different color that they wore. I'm not sure if it was even statewide, but I noticed that. At the Max Secruity that all imates go through before they are moved to either a less secured facility or a non-intake wing most inmates had to wear a light blue jumpsuit, but I had to wear a white jumpsuit to show I was in an impact incarceration program. When I was in an impact incarceration program yellow ment you were 'quitting' (I never wore that one though!)and white meant you were a 'ghost' or a newbie who was just learning the ropes. For the main part of your stay you were in 'blues' which was just a blue button up shit and blue pants with a fashionable orange stripe down the side of each leg.
  • Colored jumpsuits signify that this person is either a jail or prison inmate. they are easily recognizable on the street as just that. many people have called the police, when they see a person in one of these jumpsuits. 90% of the time, this person has escaped.
  • The main reason for the colors is so if the person escapes they are easy to spot by police and civilians. Also the different types of jumpsuits identify inmates. Trustees wear stripes for a sentenced trustee and bright orange for an unsentenced trustee. All other inmates usually wear blue.
  • Here I am!!! Right here!!! Not a civilian!!! Can't hide in the woods!!!
  • In Va.,the colors indicate the severity of the crime. For instance, orange is for violent charges, green is for non-violent, blue or white (depending on the county) is for trustees. At least, that's how it was at the jail I was in.
  • the counties i was in it didn't matter the crime you all wore the orange uniform being the jumpsuit or 2 piece.
  • I think they're mostly bright orange so inmates can be spotted easily.
  • i visited a state prision on a school trip and the colors represented the crime i think there were 4 colors (people in for life, sex crimes, one for prisoners who wernt yet senticened and one for everyone else) I think it was so they knew who to keep an eye on.
