What do you think about a woman who is still breastfeeding her 8 and 5 year old daughters?

Thats digusting,there was a tv programme on this very thing it makes them and the kids look awful.

I think if the children still feel comfortable doing it, it's wonderful for them, very boding experience and very often done in other countries that don't have the stigma this one does on breastfeeding. If it's done privately and if the chidlren ask in a polite way, it does no harm to anyone and is very nurturing to the whole family. THey quit when they are ready. It isn't all they eat. It isn't done all day, it's just done for some mom time. It doesn't turn them into sissies or gay or anything other than healthy mother loving kids.

Sounds like she needs to let go already. Mothers often find it difficult to stop breastfeeding because, (they say) they will miss the 'bonding'. I think at this age, she could find other ways to bond -if that is her reason. This doesn't sound healthy for any of them.

they need to put her in a strait jacket. Those kids are going to have SERIOUS psychological problems when they grow up, if not already. That's WAY too old to be breastfeeding your kids, and sounds to me like borderline molestation. Those kids don't NEED breastmilk, and they certainly don't need to suckle on their mother's breast when they are that old. That's freaking sick.

I'm all for breast feeding -- if they're under 1 year old!!! They aren't getting anything nutritionally -- and I wouldn't want memories of still sucking on my mother's breasts when I got older. ewwww It is a hard thing to wean babies, emotionally. I cried when I had to do it -- but there's no way I'd continue either. Just my opinion - I don't agree with it at all.

That is just plain sick! A child being breast fed at 2 is strange but ok. At 5 im surprised she is still producing milk! And by the time they are 8 they should not be drinking breast milk! It contains far too many minerals and nutrients to be healthy!

Not really for me to judge but if they were my children I would be very worried about the type of reaction this causes amongst their friends. It would certainly be something that most children would find bizarre and I would be afraid that the children would be very badly teased.

I was under the impression that after a certain age breastmilk is not longer digestable. In that case it will be doing absolutely nothing for them.

I'm a huge fan of breastfeeding, but even I weaned my daughter when she turned three. She was getting plenty of nutrition by then, even with having a hard time starting on her solids, and neither she nor I needed it. Now we have "snuggling" time where I hold her on my lap or curl around her lying down and read her books or tell her stories, if we need bonding time. Historically, women have breastfed their children until age 4-5 or so, so extended breastfeeding has history on its side, but I'm going to consider you a complete freak if you don't stop when they lose their baby teeth. History's long done by then, and 8 is just WAY too old. Move on, already!

I watched the video, and they all seemed fairly healthy and happy to me. So whatever works for them... I do think the woman has a point about sexuality, though.

i think that there are some underlying issues either with the kids or mother, most likely the mom. there just comes a time in life when you just don't do certain things like that. would you sit there and hold your 8 year old and feed them a bottle of formula? probably not. when my child can say to me, "mom i want to suck on your nipple" i would have known it had already gone too far for far too long

That is so not right, 2 years is tops and even then its stretching the time that you need to breastfeed.

I think that is a mother who has a seperation anxiety problem and should go to see a shrink. It disgusts me after 2 years old.

WOW! This is just weird. If your kids can name your nipples they are wayyyyyyyyyyyy to old to breastfeed. That family needs help. I guess when they grow up and get upset they will just run to mommy and ask to suck on "milky" the nipple. Just fucking weird!!!

in most cultures that's just creepy, but I do think it's perfectly acceptable in places where malnutrition is normal.
