There is NOTHING in Canadian law to prevent this, we have no problem with dual-citizenship. But she is prevented from doing this under American law which does not allow you to accept citizenship in another country. (You can only be forced, which Canada does not do.) She will lose her American "green card" by accepting permanent resident status for Canada.
No! Best she can do is get a tourist visa. The US does not allow dual citizenship nor dual residency.

I am an Indian Citizen in USA on student visa. I want to get Study Permit to go to Canada. If I got to NY and apply, will it be quicker? Do I have to make appointment in NY? If I decide to mail them my passport, I 20 and I 94, how will I get it back?

You're reading My girlfriend is German and I am Canadian. Can she keep her American greencard if she gets permanent resident status and a work permit in Canada?
Comments
Got to thinking though, she could apply for another US Green Card if she say, marries a Canadian. Might complicate things a bit though. Big question here is If she is Canadian, he German and she has a Green Card, in which country do they intend to live? Because if he is German and in the US on a visa, his status might change as well. Possibly losing his visa. More countries involved the more complex the problems.

But the question isn't really about Canada at all. It's all about the US and their green card rules.
