I think *Most* crime shows use cheap storytelling tactics to emphasise their impact and present their viewers the shocking images that they know will boost the program's ratings. They definitely step over the line between tasteful/necessary and gratuitous when they use them out of context like that though. I for one have never been an especially big fan of that genre anyway, but if I were I can guarantee you that that kind of tact would completely ruin it for me.
