We don't have a land line phone. We both have our cells, so it is just an added, unnecessary expense. We both have voicemail on our cells though.

We don't have a cell phone. Actually we get no cell phone reception here but if we drive about 1 mile down the road we can get it in our car in the middle of the intersection. So we rely on our land line. We do have an answering machine.....finally! We only got one about 4 years ago when we werer moving and had lot sof things to sell and lots of calls to receive. We are old-fashioned. We don't really like phones and find them an intrusion usually.

We have both on the landline and we choose to use the voicemail through the phone as we can save messages easier and call in remotely to collect etc. The system on our phone is cheap and inconvenient.

Got rid of the house phone last week and it has never been more peaceful, should have done it a long time ago.

Landline with voicemail. Reason: offered free thru phone company.

    Devil's advocate
I have a landline without either because i have no interest in what calls come in when i am not there.

    --------------------------------------
Did you see my etiquette question?
When you get somebody's voicemail etc, do you hang up, leave a brief message (call me) or leave a detailed message?

Reason i ask is because i get upset when i leave a detailed message and the caller later returns the call and has no clue of the detailed message that i left. (and the caller had deleted the message or the answering service didnt take the message)

No landline here. What would determine the choice of the message taking device would depend on cose. Seems that answering machines work fine (and you can retrieve your messages) and the cost is defined.

Yes I own an answering machine hooked up to the land line. Many people and businesses don't know my cell phone number and I work a 12 1/2 hour day, so I miss many calls.
