I don't find it very difficult, it just takes a bit of practising. It depends on the complexity of the piano part that you are playing at the same time as singing.

It really depends on the skill level of both parts of the piece. I can play "Let It Be" and "Hey Jude" and sing no problem because the Piano part is just basic chords. However, if I was going to try and sing an Aria that doesn't fit with the Piano part and all that, I can imagine it would be difficult.

Hi perhaps I could answer your question. I am only a young guy who has about 10 years of experience in a few genres into singing, and about 2 years in playing on the piano. Perhaps I have a natural ability in learning, that helped me shorten learning times, and the huner for knowledge. I am by no means an expert, a performer, or a star, but its all about getting 1 thing right before moving onto another. U can't rush. U either get your piano skills well, or singing skills first. One of them have to be at an advance stage. For me its my singing. I have created a site which is about... 5% complete ? It aims to teach you everything on how to sing with piano. As the keywords u see, my site is at www.SingWithPiano.com. I am an asian, so I hope you dont mind the singing in mandarin, but generally the site has both english and chinese. Music is an international language, so hope that this could answer your question.

First you have to learn the piano part perfectly, almost memorized. Then you have to do the same with the words. When you know them by heart, or almost, then you can put them together; and with further practice you can sing without looking at the music, and even without looking at your hands in some cases.

Ok, here's the thing. I was one of those people who was an either or. I either played the piano or I sang. I was basically forced into it because the lead singer of the group flipped out on us. The human body is fascinating. After a while it just becomes human nature. Like a good habit that's hard to break. So here's my advice. Take a deep breath sit a the piano and just do it. Do it consistently and soon you'll be able to it without thinking about it. If you're having trouble with the piano part, I found a site at www.mytoppianolessons.com that can help you.
