Disagree. I'd say that people who stick to defeatist attitudes such as comparing the planet to an AIDS patient fit that title better than the human race in general. Because even if you call the human race "The AIDS of the planet", we're also the only species that can hope to fully understand the impact we've had on the planet, or hope to correct it. Yes, the human race has skrewed this planet up pretty massively, but sitting around trying to seem "Earth-First" by wallowing in guilt and comparing the human race to a malignant growth on the face of the planet doesn't exactly help the situation. Despite all of the crippling and destructive artificial influences we as a species have introduced to the environment, we ourselves are just as natural as any other living thing. And attitudes like that, be they true or not, only perpetuate the idea that there's nothing we can do to help, and there is. I'd say that the inustrial activity and modern society of humans is a crippling influence on the planet, but that we, as people, as humans, as individuals and as a whole, are also the only real solution.

Definitely agree, the human race is destroying the planet faster than any disease can, we're using up resources like crazy and doing almost nothing to stabilize the environment. If we don't help out our planet, soon it will meet it's end.

Aye..Humanity can be seen as a virus but hopefully not lethal..for they have a tendency of killing the host. Which would be analogous to the planet Earth. The human race is more like the flu and in the scheme of things maybe only 24hrs.

AIDS? No. More of a nasty skin rash that is easily treated/eradicated provided it doesn't go away on it's own naturally.

I heard this quote and had to laugh...what would he consider doing about the human race? Lethal inject it, incuding himself? I know we have done a lot of damage to the planet, but there are a lot of people trying their best to reverse the difference. This is, according to scientific evidence, not the first time the planet has been in trouble, but it is the first time that there has been a species that can do something about it. Maybe if the dinosaurs had been able to adapt, recycle and conserve, they might have survived the meteor/volcanic explosion/giant flood that killed them off.

I'd think the human race were more like cancer. Instrumental little cells that haven't been producing according to plan and becoming a nuisance. Saying that we all have responsibility is well and good, but what form should this responsibility take? I'd go with the adopt/no child policy.

Agree. Agent Smith described it quite well, also.

What "leading" environmentalist? Also, environmentalist =/= scientist Unless this person is also a scientist, in addition to being an environmentalist.
-
Only as a matter of curiosity, who is this leading environmentalist? If he exists, he makes controversial statements for a living. It is easier than getting and working a real job.
