No, driving should not be based solely on age. Older people (and younger people) need to be tested more often.

Taken away? no, not without just cause. i do believe that all drivers should be re-tested, at the age of 70. as a person ages, their reaction time slows down tremendously. i have seen elderly people sit through several changes of a red traffic signal. i approach their vehicle and find them frozen to the steering wheel. they are afraid to drive. i have taken many home. AARP will probably jump my case for this answer, but i know what i see everyday and deal with. i am 63. it would not hurt my feelings, at age 70, to retake the driving test. if i failed, i would park my car. Also, some elderly people have different forms of psychological problems. they will drive their vehicle into an area and just forget where they are or how to return. they take off on foot and never heard from again. Age 70 is a good, round age for a re-test.

I have my driver's license and I feel we should be retested every ten years. There are some older folks who drive better than some younger folks. It isn't an age thing ~ it is a mental thing!

no, but i do think drivers should have to re-take the driving portion of the exam every so often. it should be based on someone's ability to drive, not their age.

I definitely think they should have to re-pass their test when they reach a certain age. A few years ago our friend was stepping out onto the road (while the green man was on) and she was pushing her baby in the pram. Out of nowhere, a car came and bashed into the side of the pram. The pram was mangled, but saved the baby. The driver of the car was in his seventies and couldn't actually see what was under his nose so to speak. I also think regular drivers (no matter what their age) should have to take their test every 5 years or so, to try and make sure they're safe drivers.
