I'm a fan of NEC. Choose your own size and pay attention to resolution (if a 17" LCD and a 19" LCD both display 1280x1024, the 19" doesn't show you any more on the screen it just makes things bigger). LCD's are getting cheaper and it's harder to find CRT's which is fine unless you have a toddler in the house. Toddlers have to touch screens and glass is easier to clean and harder to damage.

This may sound facetious, but buy the one you like. I've interrupted more people trying to convince others on which monitor to buy, like their preferences are the same as everyone's preferences. Buy the best monitor you can afford that has the picture quality you like, but don't go crazy, because costs are always falling.
