I don't feel comfortable answering a lot of political questions because my more moderate-conservative views and opinions seem to ALWAYS be "wrong" to so many of the ultra-liberals here who seem to think their opinions are the only ones that count! It doesn't stop me completely, as I could really care less about "winning" this popularity contest. But I tire of the hypocrisy I see when facts that don't support their opinions are ignored or denied, while less provable "facts" get bandied about like Gospel.

I agree with your first 2 reasons. Also, if I have an opinion on an opinion question that I know will create a firestorm, I don't bother unless it is something that I feel very strongly about. And if it sounds like someone wanting others to answer their homework questions, I usually answer with 'do your own homework' and don't actually answer the question. And if the question is just an opportunity for someone to whine about something, sometimes I will answer, or sometimes I will just ignore it.

Like CaptSolo, I generally steer clear of obviously political questions. Not because of my beliefs, but because I don't want to get into a long give-and-take about why I feel a certain way. The rhetorical questions just piss me off. Also questions like, "What color is honesty?" What am I supposed to say to that?

I dont answer questions that I know nothing about or if they are unclear. Here and there I may ask for clarity in my answer.

I don't answer questions because there is not enough time in the day to answer them all. I answer as many as I have time for, and barely make a ripple.

If I don't know an answer or can't add much to waht has already been said, I don't add my answer. If it's something that is too explosive and I can see it is causing too heated commenting, unless I think I can say something defusing, I'll butt out. If it's an obvious breing out the worst question or it looks like someone is just trying to set up an argument, you won't find me there either. A few questions are too sensitive or painful to write about and I'll ignore those.

If the question is of a private nature.. I dont know anything about the subject. It was rude and crude. Someone just trying to be funny...
-
I don't answer questions I don't like, or "religious/ christian" questions, because you just can't say ANYTHING w/o a week long comment debate.

I don't answer on topics I know nothing about or if the question is so badly written that I can't understand what it's about? (Communication skills are important when trying to get an answer).
