My brothers a police officer and is on the large size,but saying that he is fit as he runs,swims and does weights and i wouldnt fancy him chasing me down the street.

We called the police force where I grew up 'The Heavyweights'. I swear, one officer was over 300 lbs. He had a son who weighed 200 lbs at age 10.

Could you imagine an overweight officer trying to chase down a killer? 8 out of 10 times the criminal would get away...its time for Jenny Craig...;)

Haha, yes. I work at Wendy's (fastfood) and a lot of officers come in for lunch. I'd say 75% are overweight. And its always the skinny ones who order salads...

Oh GOD. I was pulled over once by a couple of policeman who HAD to be about 400 lbs, and that is NOT exaggerating. One had a belly that hung down to his KNEES almost. When they got out of the police car, the whole side of it came up. Their WEIGHT PUSHED THE CAR DOWN, not just a little, but DRASTICALLY. That is when someone needs to lay off the candy and fried chicken no matter how you look at it.

I guess sooner or later that i would have to respond to this question. I agree with the overweight problem. fortunately, this mostly applies to older officers. i am 6 ft. 5 in. and weight 240 lbs. according to our medical doctor, i am exactly where i should be, on the weight scale. I generally do not chase minor criminal infractions of the law. i leave that to the younger officers, who seem to enjoy the chase. felony crimes are a different story. i chase when i have to. normally, i use my police vehicle to apprehend felony criminals. Its hard for the rank and file to follow, if their Chief of Police is overweight. Too many doughnuts, too many Christmas dinners and too many good Thanksgiving holidays can take a toll in a hurry.

The dad from Family Matters comes to mind, but no I haven't seen any actual overweight police.
