DOn't lie to them. I would try and skirt around the subject, and say something along the lines of everyone has to die eventually, but that it won't be for a very long time and that they don't have anything to worry about.
-
tell them what is the truth and never tell them fantasies, explain them that all things that has life must come to an end to have a peaceful rest, so that as long as they are still alive teach them to make their lives to its fullest but have in mind that while doin this they should be aware and don't take it for granted and don't step on anyone's foot while they are having the best of their lives..

i would tell them that, yes, you are going to die, but that probably isn't going to be for a very, very long time. actually, maybe you shouldn't include that "probably" part. it depends on their ages...

There are nice gentle ways to tell children the truth. Explain that all things die, plants, animals, people but that they usually have a good long life with care. Let them feel the value of life that you have. Share your beliefs for the future with them. Give them a future, and don't linger on the question too long.

All the preceding answers are good, and I'd agree. Little kids aren't necessarily coming at the question the same way adults would, though. My mom said my older sister, when very small, asked, "When you die can I have all your stuff?"

Myself... i am a kid.. i am now old enough to understand.. But it is a hard topic to talk about, and you need to talk about it before they get into their teens and after they are self controlable... (5-9)

just tell them, "that everyone must die at some point, but you dont have to worry be/c mommy does not plan to die for a very long time".
-
I answer Yes but i will be here to annoy you for a very very long time :)...my kids have asked me that one for ever and it pays to have a sense of humour when answering with kids, keep in light and short
