It's actually spelled whey. And whey is the liquid remaining after milk is curdeled and strained. They put it in a lot of stuff like breads n crackers. They also make whey protein as a supplement.

'Whey' is the liquid remaining after milk has been curdled and strained; it is a by-product of the manufacture of cheese. I think 'curds and whey' is the equivalent of 'cottage cheese.'
