I purchased a rubber tree plant today, it has no roots. Do I place it in water first to grow roots, or just replant with fresh soil?

No roots ? How bizarre. I would treat it as a cutting, put the end in hormone rooting powder and then in moist soil. If it has no roots you will need to take some of the leaves off so the plant doesnt stress and not have it in full sun.

when i got my rubber tree it did not have roots either i was told to keep it in a jar of water untill the roots are at least 1/2 an inch long then plant it in poting soil

It is now 8 ft tall and is doing great
