My 1995 Sony Trinitron Color TV's channel changer & volume control won't work (either from the remote or on the TV itself). The original remote conked out 2 months ago, but the remote from the Panasonic VHS, that this TV is connected to, was working fine.

As it turned out, I tried disconnecting the TV from the power source and then reconnecting. Whatever the problem was... everything worked properly again (even the original Sony remote control). It's a mystery. Perhaps there had been a momentary (un-noticed) loss of power and/or a power surge -- or a brief (also un-noticed) interruption of the cable connection that temporarily screwed up the TV functionality.
