try going on to ipod.com and seeking help there, or reading the stuff which came with your ipod.

You need to state your operating system. If you're using Vista, you need to update or you could ruin your iPod, apparently. Woooo go Microsoft... O_o

I had the same prob last night. here is what you do. uninstall all of your USB drives. Reboot your computer "TWICE". It worked for me, hope it works for you!!!

When you plug in your ipod, an icon should appear in the system tray (where the clock is on your computer screen). It looks like a green arrow, with something under it. If you DON'T see that icon, then my guess is your USB hub is disabled, the drivers are out of date, or you've got a dead hub or cable. First, make sure the hub is working by plugging another device into it. If THAT device works, then it's definitely the USB cable for your iPOD. USB cables are pretty easy to fry, especially if you have a habit of yanking them out of the hub without properly disconnecting the device first.

Ok, here's the prob: my ipod doesn't show up in finder or My Computer or iTunes; that means I have a Mac (eMac) running the latest OSX. Now, the ipod charges just fine, and plays just fine. Even when I plug it into the comp, it charges. Once in a blue moon, it'll actually work and i can access the ipod from itunes just fine, but not recently. Don't bother me with the 5 R's or restarts, reinstalling itunes, or checking it on another comp, none of that worked. AND, it's a firewire connnection, NOT USB. Any kind intelligent people have any other suggestions?
