(Im assume i'm right as I've never heard it) Jimothy isn't a name, so Jim obviously doesn't come from a name that doesn't exist Tim is a shortening of Timothy (obviously :p)

I don't know the answer but when I read the name Jimothy I burst out laughing. Thanks
-
There was kid in the 7th grade when I was in it who liked to be called Billiam which is just as funny as Jimothy :)
-
I got a good giggle out of this one. I have often wondered why people named John are also called Jack or why Bill or Billy is short for William. And how is Jim short for James anyway; shouldn't it be Jam? And lets not get started on the nick names for Richard; I mean Dick; come on. lol
-
Now that is a question that I wish I knew the answer to! The whole nick name thing is confusing to me.
-
how do you get Bob from Robert?
-
I don't know.... but I dare an AB'er to name his or her next born child "Jimothy"!
-
For the same reason that Bill doesn't come from Billard!
-
What about Richard? Dick? C'mon.....
-
Jimothy is a name, but is not directly related to Jim, although that is a useable nickname. My name is Jimothy, I'm not the only one either.
-
HAHA!!! Who cares??? They're nice guys, Jim and Tim, that's all that matters...!

If you get a good answer to this, maybe they can also answer how we get 'Betsy' out of Elizabeth (Beth I can see--Betsy, not so much). Also, if olive oil comes from olives and flaxseed oil comes from flaxseeds, where does baby oil come from???
-
